AI Assistants

Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant to your store so you can ask questions about weddings, customers and orders in plain language.

SuitTracker can connect to AI assistants that support the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for giving an assistant controlled access to an application's data. Once connected, you can ask things like "which tailoring orders are ready for pickup this week?" or "what are Bob's measurements?" and the assistant looks the answer up in your store.

Before You Start

You need an AI assistant that supports custom MCP connectors. Claude and ChatGPT both do, as do several developer tools. The assistant must be able to reach the internet, this is not a local install.

You connect using your own SuitTracker login. There is no separate key to create or share.

Connecting

  1. 1 In SuitTracker, go to Settings → External Connections and copy the Server URL from the AI Assistants card.
  2. 2 In your assistant, add a custom connector and paste that URL. In Claude this is under Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  3. 3 You'll be sent to SuitTracker to sign in, exactly as you normally would, including two-factor if you have it enabled.
  4. 4 Choose which store the assistant may access. The authorization screen shows exactly what access it will receive.
  5. 5 Click Authorize. You're returned to the assistant, ready to use.

Before You Authorize

The authorization screen shows two things worth reading. The name an application gives itself is not verified, anyone can publish an app calling itself anything. What cannot be faked is where your data will be sent, shown on that screen. If you do not recognise it, cancel.

If you are warned that the application receives data on your own computer, only continue if you just started that application yourself.

What an Assistant Can See

A connection covers one store and carries your own permissions, it can never see more than you can. To connect a second store, add a second connector and pick that store.

  • Customers, including measurements
  • Weddings and party members, including assigned attire
  • Orders and order items
  • Rental inventory, appointments and tasks, where your store uses them
  • Your store's own status lists and attire options

Features your store does not use are not visible at all. If you do not use Rentals, an assistant cannot see rental orders or inventory and will say so rather than guess.

Text messages are deliberately excluded. Admins may also grant limited updates, notes, statuses and tasks; other users get read-only access.

Disconnecting

Go to your profile → Sessions. Connected assistants are listed alongside your browser sessions, showing the app, where it sends data, the store and the access it was given. Click Disconnect to revoke it.

Disconnecting stops the assistant renewing its access immediately. An assistant already mid-request may finish it, but will be locked out within the hour.

Things to Keep in Mind

An assistant reads real customer data. Treat a connected assistant as you would any other place that data appears, only connect assistants you trust, and remember that what you ask may be processed by that assistant's provider.

Assistants can also be wrong. Confirm anything that matters, a measurement, a pickup date, a balance, against the record itself before acting on it.

If you want a program to read your data on a schedule rather than a person asking questions, the API is a better fit.
